The Mannheimer Foundation, Inc. offers a variety of positions working with nonhuman primates at our locations in Homestead and LaBelle, Florida. All team members must be dedicated to human and animal welfare. Many of our positions require elements of cross-training to ensure excellence in animal care. Working together is crucial, and we have spent considerable time building our team.

Position Descriptions
Staff Veterinarian
Our staff veterinarians provide preventative and clinical care to our breeding colonies of nonhuman primates. This includes reviewing and maintaining preventive medicine programs, animal health surveillance, surgery, research support, training new staff, IACUC membership, colony management and enrichment. In addition, this position involves training veterinary interns/externs and lab animal residents in nonhuman primate medicine and management.
Veterinary Support Staff
Our veterinary technicians and assistants work together with our veterinarians to provide preventative and clinical care to our nonhuman primates. Duties include, but are not limited to, routine daily animal observations, assistance in clinical assessments, diagnostics and treatments of animals, complete and accurate medical recordkeeping, providing environmental enrichment, and organization, inventory and cleanliness of hospital areas. Minimum technical skills required include venipuncture, intravenous catheter placement, basic suturing techniques, medication dose calculations and administration. Experienced veterinary support staff also assist with training of new employees.
Animal Care Technician
Our husbandry technicians are primarily responsible for the daily feeding, watering, and care of our nonhuman primates, as well as cleanliness and disinfection of animal enclosures. Additional duties include, but are not limited to, cleaning and maintaining other facility areas, providing environmental enrichment, assisting the veterinary staff with animal handling and preventative care, routine daily animal observations, and reporting animal health or facility maintenance concerns.
Maintenance Technician
Our maintenance technicians are responsible for the routine maintenance, repair and beautification of our facilities, with care to ensure the safety of all animals and employees. Duties include, but are not limited to, animal enclosure repair, design, implementation and repair of environmental enrichment devices, routine grounds, vehicle and building maintenance, transportation between facilities, and supply acquisition. Technical skills in construction, building repairs, grounds keeping, and vehicle care are required. Prior experience with operating machinery (e.g., tractors, bobcats, bat-wing mowers, bush hogs) or welding is highly desirable.
Administrative Support Staff
Administrative support staff includes administrative assistants, data entry technicians, and accounting personnel that assist the directors and managers in coordinating and supporting day-to-day business affairs. Duties include, but are not limited to, fielding telephone calls, scheduling and logistics, paperwork preparation, purchase order preparation and execution, expense coding, collating and entering data into our animal medical and accounting systems, and assistance in event planning.
